From 16 March to 3 November, the Wachau bus line WL6 runs daily from the Melk station forecourt to Schallaburg Castle and back.

There is plenty of parking space for coaches and cars.
Those of you who are light on their feet might want to walk to Schallaburg Castle on signposted footpaths: approx. 2.5 hrs from Melk Station; approx. 1 hr from Loosdorf Station
It’s a 15-minute ride from the Danube Cycle Path to Schallaburg Castle. There is a bicycle rack at the reception centre.
Schallaburg Castle is a historical building. Nonetheless the exhibition area, castle garden, restaurant, and toilets are fully accessible for disabled visitors.
Parking
Parking spaces for disabled are within easy reach (parking area 2).
Disabled visitors can be driven by car directly to the ticket office and can be picked up from there again. However, the car can‘t be parked at the ticket office during the visit.
Alternately, there is a shuttle service from the parking area to the ticket office for disabled visitors. The shuttle service can be requested at +43 (0)2754 / 6317-0
Lifts
All levels of Schallaburg Castle are fully accessible (lift: width 90 cm, depth 140 cm).
Wheelchairs
Two wheelchairs are available free of charge, although you will be asked at the reception to deposit an ID.

The following questions and answers are based on the house rules for the Schallaburg Castle exhibition area. All visitors and staff are subject to these regulations. Visitors agree and commit themselves to comply with the rules. Inebriated visitors may be denied access to the exhibition.
At what time does the exhibition close? When is the last entry?
The current opening hours as listed in the entrance area: Monday to Friday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Saturdays, Sundays and holidays: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. From Monday to Friday, last entry is at 4:00 pm; on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, last entry is at 5:00 pm.
Can I take photos?
The use of photographic, video or audio recording devices is not permitted within the exhibition. Exhibits must not be touched or photographed due to loan regulations, etc. You are welcome to take pictures in other areas of the castle.
Are dogs allowed in the exhibition?
Unfortunately dogs and other pets are banned from Schallaburg Castle. However, dog bowls are available at the reception centre.
Are backpacks and other items of luggage allowed in the exhibition premises?
Umbrellas, sticks or similar items, travel bags or backpacks are not allowed in the exhibition area. You are advised to leave your luggage in the cloakroom. Handbags and small rucksacks that can be carried like handbags with a shoulder strap are allowed in the exhibition.
Are prams allowed in the exhibition?
Sure! The exhibition is fully accessible on all levels, even with prams.
Food and drinks
Drinks and food (including ice cream) are not allowed in the exhibition premises.
Smoking
Smoking, e-cigarettes, and open fire are not allowed in interior spaces of Schallaburg Castle. The fire safety regulations apply to all visitors and members of staff.

The shop always picks up the theme of the current exhibition at Schallaburg Castle. Visitors will find a wide range of products that are perfectly matched to the current topic.
Whether it’s the '70s or Vikings, Byzantium, or Islam: products available in the shop reflect the current exhibition theme. Besides the exhibition catalogue and related publications, the shop has a range of special items for children and youngsters. Visitors will also find postcards, magnets and bookmarks, jewellery, textiles and culinary gifts, as well as a number of articles specific to Schallaburg and the region. The museum shop is open daily, with opening hours coinciding with those of the exhibition. We look forward to your visit!

Hiking adventures around Schallaburg Castle
Schallaburg Castle is the starting point for several walks and hikes through the area. There are three circular hike trails in the immediate vicinity, with footpaths ranging from a comfortable 30-minute stroll around Schallaburg to a 90-minute hike tour.
